History

On 6 July 1981, the founding of the club SC Kornwestheim eV took place. From 1981 to 1987, the Kornwestheimer Hockey Club took part in the game as the Land League Baden -Württemberg. In the 1988/1989 season, there was the move to Bietigheim. This was the reason for giving the club a new name. The club was called since then: SC Bietigheim / Kornwestheim ( SCBBK ). In the season 1989/1990 the club played in the Baden- Württemberg- League. In the 1990/1991 season it came to promotion to the Regionalliga South -West. In summer 1991, the club renamed itself Schlittschuhclub (SC) Bietigheim- Bissingen and could move up to the 1992/93 season in the Regionalliga Süd. From this time the beginning of the 1990s also came the nickname Steelers, which originates from the former main sponsor Ekatit stainless steel.

With the new division of the leagues for the introduction of DEL 1994, the SC was divided into 2 League South, where in 1997 the promotion to the 1st League South - but the team was at the launch of the second hockey league for season 1998 / 99 a class in the first league downgraded South. Starting in 1999, then succeeded in the establishment in the 2nd Bundesliga. Prior to the 2001/02 season, the club name was changed to SC Bietigheim- Bissingen Steelers. In summer 2007, the first team from the club had been moved into the Steelers GmbH. The first time a sporting director has been used in the history of the club for the 2007/2008 season. Initial holder of this post was from 9 April 2007 Michael comma, who was previously employed as a coach at SC Bietigheim -Bissingen.

In the 2008 /09 season, the Steelers won the championship in the second Bundesliga and were due to the withdrawal of foxes Duisburg entitled to promotion to the German Hockey League. The application to participate in the licensing was withdrawn prematurely because the home ground in Ellental not meet the criteria of the 9000 -point plan and discussions with the operators located in almost 20 kilometers from Stuttgart Porsche Arena were unsuccessful.

The 2009/10 season also was successful. The team, which could be held together after the competition for the most part reached the fourth place in the main round and thus had home advantage. In the playoff quarterfinals " sweepte " to the ESV Kaufbeuren 4-0. The subsequent semi-final against the Schwenningen Wild Wings was less successful. Although the Steelers went into the series with a 1-0 lead, but could only choose one of the following games for himself and lost 2:4.

After the start of the 2010/11 season performers like Justin Kelly left the team or as Alexander Serikow had stoppages, the team the whole season was almost to the last places in the table. This meant the previous sporty low point of the previously recognized familiar team. After only 3 wins from 17 matches were retracted, the champion trainer Christian Brittig was dismissed and replaced by the youth coach Danny hero. This could even lead the team in the PrePlayoffs, but where it lost 0:2 against the strong climber Star Bulls Rosenheim.

In the following season, 2011/12, it was hoped again to play the playoffs and reinforced the team with PJ Fenton and Olivier Latendresse. Nevertheless, the team was unfortunately again only at end of table. On November 25 has been replaced, despite a high 7:4 - victory against the then league leaders and eventual champions Landshut Cannibals, Danny hero as a coach by the Canadian Kevin Gaudet. Could the team, although not save from the field of play Downs and finished the season on the 11th and third last place. The playdowns were finished with 14 points in 8 games despite all the fears and the threat of relegation successfully be prevented. A title could still win the team. For the first time in club history, the Steelers were able to win the DEB - Pokal.

For the 2012/13 season Kevin Gaudet reinforced the team with the promise that you want to play in the playdowns never again. Among other things, he took the Rodman brothers and Joey Vollmer one of the best goalies in the league. Due to the NHL lockout and the serious injury of David Rodman was first TJ Galiardi on loan from the San Jose Sharks. When this then after 8 games and 10 points in the derby against the Heilbronner Falken also injured and David Rodman was not fit, you borrowed even from the first-round draft pick in 2008 Josh Bailey of the New York Islanders. The team was now working better than in recent seasons, reaching at the end of the main round the first place.

Trainer since 1999

After between 1996 and 1998 with Petteri Lehmussaari Although promotion to the then second-class Hacker-Pschorr - League, but the team then stagnated under Lehmussaari and Doug Kacharvich and was downgraded at establishment of the 2nd Bundesliga in the third division, was in the summer of 1998, the Americans Tom Pokel committed as head coach. In 1999, the Steelers managed the climb to the 2nd Bundesliga. As a coach was Tom Pokel and led the team to the playoffs. The second season of 2000 / 01 in the 2nd Division was held at Tom Pokel. After this season Pokel ended his coaching career and the Steelers presented with Thomas Dolak his successor.

The system of Thomas Dolak found in Bietigheim, both for the fans and for the players, little appeal, so that Dolak was released in November 2001 after unsuccessful four months. His successor was the Canadians Gary Prior, with the lay of the club, a series of eight victories in a row. Conclusion was with Gary Prior in the semifinals of the playoffs against Bremerhaven. Prior, however, decided even before the playoffs to not renew his contract in Bietigheim. He was succeeded for the 2002/03 season Mark Berwanger. Despite a successful season Berwanger was released as the third in the table in January 2003. This was preceded by four defeats in a row. For two weekends, the then youth coach Uli Liebsch and the captain Craig Teeple trained the team before a successor was presented with Danny Naud. Naud reached with the Steelers after the main round in first place and was eliminated in the subsequent play- offs semi-final against Freiburg. In the following season, this success could be repeated. After a poor start to the season 2004/ 05 Naud was dismissed.

On Danny Naud the former Steelers player and youth coach Uli Liebsch followed. Liebsch was in three seasons at the band of the Steelers and was released in November 2006 from his post as coach. For now took over the youth coach Danny hero the management of professional team. The end of December with Michael Komma presents a new coach. Comma ill only a short time later, in February of 2007, and could not conduct the training. Again, Danny hero jumped as interim coach. For the 2007/08 season Michael comma was used as sports director and Christian Brittig committed as a new head coach. After more than three years in office, Christian Brittig was in November 2010, after three wins from 17 games, on leave. For the third time took Danny held the first team in the Steelers first as interim coach. Danny hero stood as head coach at the start of the 2011/12 season at the gang before the Canadians Kevin Gaudet was hired on November 25, 2011.

Since the rise in the 2nd Bundesliga ten full-time coaches were employed by the Bietigheimern. Four from Germany, four from Canada and one each from the Czech Republic and the United States. The longest tenure was Christian Brittig 3 years, 7 months and 18 days.
