U 2511 XXI was a German U- boat of the Kriegsmarine type and was filed on September 29, 1944 in Hamburg by Blohm & Voss in service. Expired in April 1945 during a patrol, but it was not used because of the partial surrender of May 4 in combat.

Technology

It was one of the first XXI U- boats of the type which were fitted with significantly larger batteries and more powerful electric motors. Thus, it was a real underwater vehicle. The favorable hydrodynamic shape allowed him an underwater speed of 16.5 kn nodes and a virtually silent cruising under water at 5.5 knots. It had a range that extended from its home port mountains to the waters of Cape Town. It was with this submarine also possible to carry out torpedo attacks from a greater depth without visual contact.

History

The first patrol was to lead in the area of the Panama Canal. The boat had several times contact with the enemy with Allied fighter groups, but it was only discovered by a. This was beyond the submarine under water " Great ride " with rate against wind and waves. Commander Lieutenant Commander Adalbert snow in a later interview:

Shortly after it had received the command to return to the starting port control there surrender, hit the boat according to the specifications snow in the early morning hours of May 4 1945 a British cruiser Association under the leadership of HMS Norfolk. Without being noticed by the security destroyers, the boat went under water a mock attack and came up to torpedo range. After a short while, the boat went as ordered back to Bergen in Norway, where it arrived on May 5, 1945. The credibility of this representation is doubted by some recent literature sources, while other sources of literature and crew members confirm.

The boat was sunk in 1946 as part of Operation Deadlight.
