Germigny-l'Évêque

Germigny -l'Évêque is a commune with 1357 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region; it belongs to Arrondissement Meaux and the Canton of Meaux- Nord.

Geography

Germigny -l'Évêque was also called (especially during the French Revolution) Germigny -sur- Marne. It is up to the Marne, unlike Germigny (Marne), which is "only" in the Marne.

History

In Germigny -sur -Marne was born on September 6, 1363 Philip the Bold of his father, King John II, was appointed Duke of Burgundy. Germigny is thus the birthplace of the ( younger ) House of Burgundy.
