Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company

The Gernrode - Harzgerode Railway Company (GHE ) was a private railway company in Germany, which operated the Selke Valley Railway ( Railway Gernrode - Hasselfelde, Alexisbad - Harzgerode and stairs Icefields Talmuhle ). In Eisfelder Talmuhle station connection to the network consisted of Nordhausen - Wernigerode Railway Company ( NWE ).

History

On 10 May 1886, the Gernrode - Harzgerode Railway Company was established to connect small businesses in the eastern Harz to the railway network with the aim of using a railway line. After the experience with the Feldabahn in Thuringia, it was decided for cost reasons in the concession of March 1887 for the meter gauge and a railway line from Gernrode to Harzgerode and Silberhütte. Gernrode owned since 1885 railway connection.

Already on August 7, 1887, the first section Gernrode - Mägdesprung was opened. Gradually, the network has continued to expand until the station Talmuhle ice fields and thus the greatest expansion was achieved on 15 July 1905. The increasing road transport in the 1930s joined the GHE forward with a new diesel railcars ( GHE T 1) and own bus lines.

From April to May 1945 rested the traffic on the routes of the GHE. In April 1946, icefields Talmuhle - stairs - Hasselfelde and Strassberg River Dub Eight were dismantled all tracks as reparations to the Soviet Union with the exception of the track. The management between ice fields Talmuhle and Hasselfelde went from 15 April 1946 the NWE. The GHE with the remaining plants and buildings was nationalized on 30 June 1946.

From October 1946 we began with the reconstruction of the route of Gernrode to Harzgerode and Strassberg. The completion in July 1949 did not live to the GHE, since April 1, was under the track and the facilities of the Office of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

Omnibusverkehr

Buses were from the 1920s, a competition for the railways, so that many railway companies operated their own bus lines. The GHE first opened with the participation of " Ostharzbahnen GmbH" on February 24, 1925 their first own bus lines. Since the traffic advantageous developed on the lines, in part because the schedules of bus and railway were matched, procured the GHE in the 1930s, more buses and took over in 1933, the concession of Ostharzbahnen GmbH for additional bus lines.
