The Gesamtschule Berger Feld is a comprehensive school of the city of Gelsenkirchen. It lies in the district alder and 1325 students attended, taught by 118 teachers.
History
For the introduction of the comprehensive school in North Rhine -Westphalia one of these schools was founded in Gelsenkirchen in 1969. She was then called Gesamtschule Gelsenkirchen since it was set up for the entire metropolitan area. As at that time the only school in NRW they began at the same time with the grades 5 and 11, so that in 1972 the first students were able to pass the Abitur. First, the school was temporarily housed in various buildings until in 1974 the move could take place in the newly built school building in the Berger panel on the Adenauer Allee. Since then, the school is named Gesamtschule Berger Feld.
Special
The school regularly takes part at the European Union's Comenius program. In the first partnership the total school Berger developed the field along with the Partenerschulen All Saints College, Newcastle upon Tyne, School and Brondby, Denmark, in close contact school sports festivals for neighboring primary schools. This was followed by a project with Turkey.
As part of the " 100,000 watt solar initiative for schools in NRW", the school was equipped with a photovoltaic system and energetically renovated.
The school is located in the immediate vicinity of the club facilities of the Bundesliga football club FC Schalke 04, which is an intensive collaboration. Since 1995 the talent center Gelsenkirchen and since 2000 the soccer school at Schalke / part boarding school comprehensive school Bergerfeld. 53 users this part boarding have been 23 made the leap into the professional area, including Mesut Ozil, Manuel Neuer, Alexander Baumjohann, Benedikt Höwedes, Sebastian Boenisch, Tim Hoogland, Michael Delura, Julian Draxler and Joel Matip.
