Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names

The Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN ) is a database of approximately one million names for about 900,000 places. It is published by the Getty Research Institute.

The thesaurus covers the entire world into current and historical in both geophysical and geopolitical hierarchies. In addition to the designations coordinates, place types, spatial descriptions and other information are stored. The provision as Linked Open Data has been announced for 2014.
