The Ghent Kangri (or Mount Ghent, Ghaint I) is a 7401 meter high mountain at the northern end of the Saltoro Mountains, a mountain range in the Karakoram. The mountain consists of a double peak with the main peak and about a kilometer north-eastern Ghent Kangri II ( 7342 m). The Vertical separation of Ghent II is 272 meters.

Name

The American researchers Fanny Bullock Workman couple and William Hunter Workman discovered the mountain in 1912 during an expedition to the Siachen Glacier. The mountain was first surveyed by them and was named Mount Ghent in accordance with the Treaty of Ghent ( Treaty of Ghent ).

Location

It is located west of the Siachen Glacier in an area, which is since 1984 under Indian control. West of Ghent is the Kondus Glacier, part of the Pakistani Gilgit- Baltistan. To the north of the mountain, the Sia La Pass a possible connection between Siachen Glacier and Kondus dar.

Climbing history

The Ghent Kangri was climbed for the first time on 4 June 1961 by Wolfgang ax. The Austrian expedition under Erich Waschak supplied via the west ridge. Ax alone climbed above the height of the bearing.

According to the Himalayan Index, there were three more ascents in 1977, 1980 and 1984.
