Giacomo Zanella

Giacomo Zanella (* 1820 in Chiampo, Vicenza, Italy, † May 17, 1888 in Vicenza ) was an Italian poet and literary historian.

Life

Zanella devoted himself first to the priesthood, and in 1855 professor of philosophy at the Liceo di Santa Caterina in Venice. In 1856 he became director of the Ginnaseo liceale in Vicenza and in 1866 professor of Italian literature at the University of Padua. In 1872 he retired from this position for health reasons in the private life. Zanella was one of the most famous poets in the Italian Parnassus.

Work

Zanella's poetry was characterized by a refined style and was inspired by objects of science and its practical results, fossil, such as in one of his more famous poems La conchiglia. Other works were:
