Gibberichthys pumilus

Gibberichthys is a small, only two types of species of deep-sea fish from the family Gibberichthyidae within the order of mucus -like head. They live in the tropical western Atlantic, the Western Indian Ocean and the western and southwestern Pacific Ocean at depths of 400 to 1000 meters. Young fish live near the surface to depths of 50 meters. The genus is known only from a few captive individual copies.

Description

The fish are up to 12 centimeters long. Your body is covered with cycloid scales along the lateral line organ they have 28 to 34 scales. Adult animals have soft-rayed dorsal fin in front of the 5-8 insulated hard jets, in front of the anal fin soft-rayed 4-5 insulated hard jets. Also, the caudal peduncle is thorny. Each fin has about 7 to 9 soft rays. Their ventral fins are small and have a hard and 5-6 soft rays. The swim bladder is partially filled with grease. The number of vertebrae is 28 to 31

The larvae of Gibberichthys pumilus were described as Kasidoron genus, for which the family Kasidoridae was erected.
