Gifu University

The University Gifu (Japanese岐阜 大学, Gifu daigaku ) is a national university in Japan. The campus is located in Yanagido, Gifu in Gifu Prefecture.

History

The University Gifu was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were:

  • The agricultural and forestry business school Gifu (岐阜 农林 専 门 学校, Gifu Norin Gakko Semmon in Inuyama, founded in 1923 ),
  • The normal school Gifu (岐阜 师范学校, Gifu shihan Gakko, founded in 1873 ), and
  • Youth Normal School Gifu (岐阜 青年 师范学校, Gifu his shihan Gakko in Tarui, founded in 1922 ).

The university was opened with two faculties: Liberal Arts and agricultural science. She founded the faculties of Engineering Sciences (1952) and medicine ( 1964) by merging the former Prefecture University Gifu (岐阜 県 立 大学, Gifu kenritsu daigaku. Their last name was the prefectural Medical School, Gifu (岐阜 県 立 医科大学, Gifu kenritsu ika daigaku ) ).

In 1981 the present Yanagido campus was reopened, and the faculties ( except medicine) moved to the campus in order. Finally, in 2004 attracted the Faculty of Medicine and the Hospital after Yanagido; the older Hospital were from 1876 to 2004 Tsukasamachi in the center of Gifu.
