Gilbert Houngbo

Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo ( born February 4, 1961) is a Togolese politician and served from 2008 to 2012 Prime Minister of Togo.

Houngbo worked studied at the University of Lomé Business Administration, also he completed a postgraduate degree (DESS ) in Finance and Accounting at the University of Quebec in Trois- Rivières from. After his studies he worked for the accounting and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in Canada, his focus was on public companies and administrations. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant (Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants).

From 2003 Houngbo first worked in strategic management of the United Nations (UNDP ) development program as Director of Finance and Administration, at the end of 2005, the then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed him chief of staff of the UNDP for the countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

The vacancy of the office of the Togolese Prime Minister with Houngbo was decided on 7 September by President Faure Gnassingbe and the Togolese announced on television. Houngbo followed Komlan Mally, who resigned his position on 5 September 2008.

On September 15, Houngbo appointed a new government consisting of three ministers of state, 20 ministers, two ministers and two secretaries of state delegates. In the office of foreign minister sparked Kofi Esav, who was with the African Union in Addis Ababa until then Ambassador of Togo, Léopold Gnininvi was appointed Minister of State from the Industry and crafts. Houngbos predecessor as prime minister was appointed Minister of Health, most other key ministries experienced no changes.
