Gilbert Poirot

Gilbert Poirot ( born September 21, 1944 in La Bresse, † February 1, 2012 in Chamonix ) was a French ski jumper.

Career

His international debut Poirot at the Four Hills Tournament 1963/64. After he played only three of the four competitions and achieved a leading position in any Poirot finished the tour only on the 45th place in the overall standings. Also in the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 he failed the breakthrough. Only at the Four Hills Tournament 1965/66 he scored for the first time good rankings. So he landed in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck on a good 21th Place. He completed the tour with 733.6 points until rank 22 overall.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 in Oslo Poirot launched in two individual disciplines. From the large hill he reached the 32th place after jumps of 75.5 and 70 meters. From the normal hill, he finished by jumps of 67 and 63.5 meters in the 50th place.

In the Four Hills Tournament 1966/67, Poirot had a slight performance hit fight. In all four events he missed a top 30 placement. In the overall standings, therefore, he reached only ranks 32nd with the Four Hills Tournament 1967/68 Poirot denied his successful tour. Although he left out the opening event in Oberstdorf, but started in Garmisch -Partenkirchen on the Great Olympic ski jump with the 10th place, which was also the single best result in his career. In Innsbruck he reached another top 20 ranking with rank 18. In the overall classification, he finished at the end of the tour with 782.7 points to 13th place.

At the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble Poirot managed from the normal as well as on the large hill in tenth of it into the top 10 with the following Four Hills tours came a renewed drop in performance for him. Despite the meantime, he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1970 in Štrbské Pleso and jumped on the large hill on 85 and 91 meters, which meant rank 37. From the normal hill he reached after jumps to 76.5 and 76 meters a good 26th place. With the Four Hills Tournament 1970/71 Poirot once more proved its qualities. Again he jumped in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck in the top 20 in the overall standings at the end he reached for the last time in his career ranked among the best 30

In his second and last Olympic Winter Games 1972 in Sapporo Poirot started only on the normal hill and did not come here on the 43 square.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 in Falun, he took part in a World Ski Championships for the last time. From the large hill he succeeded with two jumps of 78.5 meters, the 41st. From the normal hill, it was enough for him just to 51st

With the Four Hills Tournament 1975/76 Poirot played his final Four Hills Tournament. After missing it past in the overall standings over rank 65 and reached his worst result of the career, he ended his active ski jumping career.
