Gilbert Schaller

Gilbert Schaller ( born March 17, 1969 in Bruck an der Mur ) is a former Austrian tennis player.

Career

Schaller's most successful year was 1995. He won the individual tournament in Casablanca. Sensation was caused his next victory against Pete Sampras in the first round of the French Open, which he however lost in the second round against Australian Scott Draper. He arrived in the same year with 17th place his highest world ranking position. According to Thomas Muster, the number 1 was, and Jurgen Melzer is Schaller therefore, measured at the world ranking, the third most successful Austrian tennis player.

Schaller was 2007-2011 captain of the Austrian Davis Cup team and sports director OTV.
