Gilbert Temmerman

Gilbert César Temmerman ( born February 25, 1928 in Gent- Ledeberg, East Flanders, Belgium, † 19 January 2012) was a Belgian politician of the Socialist Party Other ( SP.A ) and former mayor of Ghent.

Biography

After school he was employed by the Municipality of Ledeberg, a borough of Ghent, and employees of the Flemish socialist daily newspaper Vooruit.

His political career began in 1958 with the first elected as a member of the municipal council of Ghent, where he remained until 1994, as representative of the Belgian Socialist Party and the SP. 1971 election as alderman ( aldermen ) of Ghent and has held this position until 1976. He was also a 1971-1989 member of the House of Representatives and represented the interests of the arrondissements there Ghent and Eeklo.

After retiring from the House of Representatives he was finally 1989-1994 Mayor of Ghent. On 26 May 1992, he was recognized for his achievements with the honorary title of Minister of State.
