Blue Throat Triggerfish ( Xanthichthys auromarginatus )

The Blue Throat Triggerfish ( Xanthichthys auromarginatus ) lives in the western Indo-Pacific from East Africa to Hawaii, north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to the Cocos Islands and New Caledonia. He lives in small groups in the upper regions of strong currents, steep outer reef with a rich invertebrate fauna, usually above a depth of 20 meters. Blue Throat Triggerfish feed on, like all members of the genus Xanthichthys, zooplankton, especially copepods.

Features

The Blue Throat Triggerfish has an oval, greenish, bluish or gray body. The males have a bright blue throat, whereupon the German name refers, as well as yellow -bordered dorsal, anal and caudal fins, and then the kind of epithet of the scientific name refers. The fish are 20 to 22 inches long.
