Gillenbach (Schussen)

The Gillenbach ( sometimes also referred to as manure Bach ) is a tributary of the Schussen which opens at Eriskirch in Lake Constance. Thus, the Gillenbach is a right tributary of the Rhine and north in the southern part of Upper Swabia in Baden- Württemberg ( Germany ).

Course

The Gillenbach arises in a bei Wilhelmskirch in the community Horgenzell to about 576 m altitude. From there it flows in a west-east direction past behind White Ried, Eschau, Aich and Ganter until shortly before Ravensburg, flows under the highway 33 through, turn south into the Hotterlochschlucht from, crosses the upper cell and ends shortly thereafter in the Schussen.

Conservation area

The Gillenbach watered the Hotterlochtobel and is therefore part of the Protected Landscape Area Hotterloch (LfU number LSG 4.36.052 ). The gorge is from the Hotterlocher Hölzle part of the FFH area Schussen and narrow Egger Gorge with the area number DE8323341 which is also known as Natura 2000 site. The Hotterlochtobel is also protected by § 30a LWaldG BW. The natural environment is a pre-Alpine hills and moorland.

Renaturation

With the construction of the new bridge shot in the mouth region of the upper cell Gille creek was renatured in 2008.

Fish kills

In 2008 there was a mass fish kills in Gillenbach, which wiped out the entire fish population.

Trivia

The figures Gillenbach witches and the Count from Gillenbach the Narrenzunft upper cell were named after the Gillenbach. In addition, the music group Dirty Little Gillenbach Street Band carries the brook in the name.
