Gilles Kepel

Gilles Kepel (* June 30, 1955 in Paris) is a French professor at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris, where it has the chair of the Near East and the Mediterranean ( Chaire Moyen -Orient Méditerranée ) holds. He is the author of sociological and political science works. He is considered one of the best connoisseurs of political Islam and radical Islamism. However, he also deals with extremist tendencies in other religions.

Gilles Kepel studied sociology, English literature and Arabic and earned two doctoral degrees in social and political science. In 1994 he was a visiting professor at New York University, from 1995 to 1996 at Columbia University.

He is currently the Philippe Roman Professor of History and International Relations at the LSE IDEAS Centre for Diplomacy & Strategy at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
