Giorgi Margvelashvili

Giorgi Margwelaschwili (Georgian გიორგი მარგველაშვილი, born September 4, 1969 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician ( party) and since November 2013 President of Georgia.

Life

Margwelaschwili studied at the Tbilisi State University philosophy and later worked as a professor. From October 25th 2012 to July 18th 2013 he was Minister of Education of Georgia.

As a candidate of the party alliance Georgian Dream Margwelaschwili got the presidential election in October 2013 over 66 percent of the vote ( according to other sources, 62% ) and thus the absolute majority. On 17 November 2013, was sworn in as successor Mikheil Saakashvili President of Georgia.

As Education Minister, he reached only low levels of awareness, but was supported by the politically influential oligarchs Bidsina Ivanishvili, the billionaire was in Russia during the election campaign.
