Giovanni Antonio Guardi

Giovanni Antonio Guardi, also often referred to as Gianantonio Guardi ( born May 27, 1699 Vienna, † January 22, 1760 in Venice) was an Italian painter of the Rococo. He was baptized on the day of his birth in Vienna's Scots Church. Guardi is considered the founding member of the Although founded in 1750, in 1756 but only officially recognized Venetian Academy.

Family

Giovanni Antonio Guardi was the eldest son of North Italian Baroque painter Domenico Guardi (1678-1716) from the Trentino and Maria Claudia Pichler from Neumarkt. His brothers were Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) and Nicolò Guardi, his sister Cecilia Guardi married Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770), the 1756 Chairman of the Academy.

Life

The family moved to the birth of Giovanni Antonio Guardi in Vienna to Venice. Here he took over in 1719 his late father 's studio. There, his two brothers worked. It was late, about 1750, he was regarded as a landscape painter.
