Giovanni Battista di Quadro

Giovanni Battista di Quadro (* 1510 in Lugano or in Cadro, Ticino, Switzerland, † April 10, 1590 or January 16, 1591 in Posen, Kingdom of Poland ) was a Polish -born Italian architect of the Renaissance.

Life

Di Quadro worked until 1550, most probably in Saxony and Silesia. On March 13, 1550, he signed with the Council of the city of Poznan an agreement concerning the reconstruction of the town hall of Poznan, which was completed by 1560. From 1552 to 1562 he was the city architect of poses, however, he was paid by the city in the years 1563, 1566 and 1567, and 1570 for smaller orders.

For citizens of Poznan di Quadro worked from the mid- 1550s, just as for the clergy and the nobility of Great Poland. In the years 1568-1572 he was involved in the establishment of the Warsaw Royal Castle. Its diverse tasks were well paid and made ​​him wealthy. However, he died in Poznań as an indebted man. His brothers Antoni, Gabriel and Kilian were also active in Poznan beginning of the 1550s.

The wife Barbara di Quadros Sztametówna died in 1603.
