Giovanni Berlinguer

Giovanni Berlinguer ( born July 9, 1924 in Sassari ) is an Italian politician.

Life

His father was the Italian politician Mario Berlinguer and his brother was the Italian politician Enrico Berlinguer. Berlinguer studied medicine. As a university teacher, he worked for Social Medicine in Italy. He was a member of the Italian Communist Party, later a member of the Democrats of the Sinistra Sinistra and Democrática. From 1972 to 1983 he was a deputy in the Camera dei deputati in Rome, 1983-1992 Senator in the Senato della Repubblica. From 2004 to 2009 he worked as a deputy in the European Parliament, where he was interim president since 2004.
