Giovanni Bernardo Carlone

Giovanni Carlone (* 1590 in Genoa, † 1630 in Milan ) was a Genoese painter.

Carlone is the eldest son of the sculptor Taddeo Carlone Lombard († 1613 ) and brother of Giovanni Battista Carlone. He was educated first by Pietro Sorri, later in Rome and Florence, at Passignani he learned the fresco painting. Among his first works was the design of the vault of the church della Nunziata in Genoa as well as the painting of the Chiesa del Gesù. On behalf of the Theatines he began designing their church in Milan, but died before completion of the work, which was then completed by his brother Giovanni Battista. His frescoes have good color and design perspective, the oil paintings are considered to be less successful.
