Giovanni Domenico Ferretti

Giovanni Domenico Ferretti ( * 1692 in Florence, † 1768 ) was an Italian painter and is considered one of the most important frescoes and screen painters of the Tuscan Rococo.

Life

Since he came from a family of Emilia, he went to Imola with Francesco Chiusuri into teaching. His first major assignment was the design of the Cathedral of Imola. With a letter of recommendation of the Bishop of Bologna, Ulisse Gozzadini, Ferretti returned to Florence. There he painted frescoes in many smaller churches and private chapels.

Larger commissions were, for example, in the Badia Fiorentina ( a monastery ). Work can also be found in Pistoia, Siena and Pescia. His main work is considered the ceiling decoration in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence, where he worked until his death. 1771, three years after his death, the work was completely destroyed by fire.
