Girish Kasaravalli

Girish Kasaravalli ( Kannada: ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾಸರವಳ್ಳಿ; born December 3, 1950 in Kesalur, Karnataka ) is an Indian film director of the Kannada movie.

Biography

Girish Kasaravalli was born in the village in the district of Shimoga Kesalur in the region of Malnad. The author KV Subbanna, a maternal uncle, aroused his interest in literature and film. After a degree in pharmacology in 1971 Kasaravalli studied from 1972 to 1975 at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune Director. His graduation film Avashesh (1975 ) won a National Film Award for best experimental short film. During his studies supported Kasaravalli TS Nagabharana at the filming of the 1978 released movie Grahana. His first feature film Ghattashraddha (1977 ) was based on a novel by UR Ananthamurthy and is in the tradition of antibrahmanistischen Navya movement in Kannada literature and Pattabhi Rama Reddy's Samskara Ananthamurthy film version (1970).

Kasaravalli focused more on literary adaptations, which, however, did not meet the taste of the critics of the mainstream audience. For four of his films - Ghattashraddha, Tabarana Kathe, Thayi Saheba and Dweepa - he was honored with a National Film Award for Best Film. He also received the National Film Awards for Haseena ( Best Film on Family Welfare ) and Gulabi Talkies ( best film in Kannada ). Other contributors to his films also won film awards. The Rotterdam International Film Festival honored him with a retrospective exhibition in 2003.

Girish Kasaravalli was director of Adarsh ​​Film Institute in Bangalore. In 1983, he issued a kannadasprachige anthology of essays on film theory of Eisenstein, Kracauer, Bazin, Metz, wool and other authors.
