Girlschool

Girlschool are a British heavy metal band, which emerged in 1978 from Painted Lady.

Band History

The founding members were Enid Williams, Kim McAuliffe, Kelly Johnson and Denise Dufort. All four wore mainly black leather and gave numerous concerts. Soon the first single Take It All Away appeared.

The albums Demolition ( 1980) Hit and Run (1981 ) sold very well, but came poorly with the critics on. 1981 also came out the EP St. Valentine's Day Massacre, which was recorded together with Motörhead and excited with the critics more attention.

Williams left the band in 1982, as a replacement came Gil Weston. Originally built in the same year album Screaming Blue Murder was described by the critics as noisy and monotonous. In late 1982 or early 1983 McAuliffe suffered a severe electric shock, where they almost died. King Diamond and Mercyful Fate his band perform this incident back to a Black Mass, which was held by Girlschool before the show and for the members of Mercyful Fate had used the blood of their manager Ole Bang, which is said to have attracted something. In 1983 Play Dirty, on which the band began to coin a glam rock image. 1984 came again to a member changes: Johnson took leave of Girlschool, but Cris Bonacci and Jackie Bodimead joined the band. With the release of Running Wild (1985 ) Girlschool were changed with her outfit for the glitter. Shortly after the release was Bodimead the band behind him.

Through a gig opening for Blue Öyster Cult, the band became popular again in late 1985. Together with Gary Glitter in 1986, she created a new version of Glitters I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am) and released the album Nightmares at Maple Cross. In 1987, Weston left the band and was replaced by Tracey Lamb. Girlschool toured this year with Motörhead through Europe and the album Take a Bite was good even with the criticism. A little later, also had Lamb Girlschool behind.

As a replacement for Lamb bassist Jackie Carrera came ( f. The Flatmates ) to do so. In 1992, the band released the self-produced album then Girlschool, which led to a renewed popularity of the band. In 1993, Kelly Johnson and Tracey Lamb returned to the band, and in 1995 the album was Girlschool: LIVE recorded, with the new songs Little Green Men and Knife. Kelly and Tracy left the band again in 2000 and Enid Williams returned and brought the new lead guitarist Jackie Chambers with.

In 2002, 21st Anniversary was: Not That Innocent recorded, produced by Girlschool and Tim Hamill.

In 2003 Girlschool recorded two new songs along with three tracks from 21st Anniversary: Not That Innocent on a CD, under the name The Second Wave: Communique appeared 25 years of NWOBHM in their label. The same occupation then released the album Believe on 26 July 2004, again on Communique Records and again produced by Tim Hamill and Girlschool.

In November 2005, published Girlschool their first download single, a re-recorded version of Emergency and London, these items are only available there for download and a donation for each download of Emergency goes to the London Air Ambulance. On July 15, 2007, the founding member Kelly Johnson died as a result of cancer.

In 2008, the band has performed at Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head and on 24 October the same year the album was released Legacy. Another gig at the Wacken Open Air festival took place in 2011 where the band played on August 6 Tent City in Bullhead.
