Girolamo Savoldo

Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo (* 1480 in Brescia, † 1548 in Venice, also Girolamo da Brescia ) was an Italian painter.

Life

About Savoldos life, very little is known. Education in painting in Brescia, held off in 1508 in Florence on, in 1521 in Venice. He was influenced by Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione and the Flemish painters.

One of his best known works is the lyrical and somewhat sentimental picture "The Transfiguration " in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Other of his works show an interest in the effects of brightness and for details of the material. His works have a strict spatial construction and vigorous realism with a striking use of light - the forms and expressions underlines - on.
