Gisela Hernández

Gisela Hernandez Gonzalo ( born September 15, 1912 in Cárdenas, † August 23, 1971 in Havana ) was a Cuban musicologist and composer.

Gonzalo Hernández studied in Havana in José Ardèvol and in Baltimore with Gustav Strube. Since 1948, she was at the Conservatory of Havana employee of Olga de Blanck, with which they published critical editions of the Cuban music of the 19th century. She also toured as a director of the Choral Society of Havana for many years Cuba and North and South America.

She composed a Cuban Triptych for orchestra, a cantata, theater music, chamber music, choirs, piano pieces and two song cycles. Her songs are settings of works by various poets, including Dulce María Loynaz, Federico García Lorca, José Lezama Lima, Nicolás Guillén and Cintio Vitier.
