Giuliano de' Medici

Giuliano de ' Medici ( * March 25, 1453, † April 26, 1478 in Florence) was the second son of Piero I de' Medici and his wife Lucrezia Tornabuoni and co-regent of his brother Lorenzo the Magnificent ( 1449-1492 ).

On January 29, 1475, he led the young married Simonetta Vespucci to a tournament in Florence. He called them regina de la bellezza. Simonetta was repeatedly portrayed and painted by Sandro Botticelli.

Giuliano de ' Medici was murdered at the start of the conspiracy of the Pazzi in the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence by Francesco de Pazzi and Bernardo Baroncelli during the Easter Mass on April 26, 1478.

He is buried with his brother Lorenzo, the Medici Chapels in the Basilica di San Lorenzo di Firenze. Both grave is adorned with the Madonna and Child by Michelangelo.

His illegitimate son of Giulio was Cardinal in 1513 and ten years later, as Pope Clement VII ( 1523-1534 ).
