Giulio Base

Giulio Base (December 6, 1964 in Turin ) is an Italian actor and film director.

Life

After a degree in literature at the Università La Sapienza in Rome and one in theology, he went to the Bottega Teatrale di Firenze, where he played under Vittorio Gassman. From the mid- 1980s he played with various theater groups and directed, among other things, in pieces by Eduardo De Filippo. Also in the film, he played roles, mostly in young directors; However, his interpretations were hardly noticed.

In 1991 he directed his first film, crack, in which he also played the lead role. The film was shown at several festivals and found despite controversial scenes attention from the critics. The following films were received with interest. Towards the end of the 1990s, base turned increasingly to television work and turned a number of works, partly in the mini-series format, on topics of ancient Rome. From 2004 he was also director of the successful master Terence Hill series Don Matteo.
