Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello

Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello (* around 1690 in Bologna, † October 4, 1758 in Stuttgart) was an Italian composer and violinist.

Life

Brescianellos name is first found in a document from 1715 in which the Duke of Bavaria sets him in Venice in his Munich Court Orchestra as a violinist. Already in 1716, after the death of Johann Christoph Pez, he got the job as music director and as a maître of concerts de la chambre at the Württemberg court in Stuttgart. In 1717 he was appointed Kapellmeister. It was here around 1718 the "pastoral " opera La Tisbe, which he dedicated to the Archduke Eberhard Ludwig. Brescianello hoped in vain through this that his work would be performed at the Stuttgart theater. In the years from 1719 to 1721 arose a violent dispute in which Reinhard Keiser applied again and again in vain to Brescianellos items.

1731 Brescianello became Chief Conductor. As 1737 financial difficulties weighed on the court, the opera company was dissolved and Brescianello lost his position. His 12 concerti e For this reason, he devoted himself increasingly to the composition activity, originated sinphonie op 1 and later the 18 Piecen for Gallichone. ( Gallichone here means the Calichon, according to a similar instrument, similar to the mood of the modern guitar. )

As in 1744, the financial distress had diminished at court, was Brescianellos reinstatement as chief conductor of the Duke Carl Eugen, especially " because of its special knowledge of music and outstanding competence". So he led the court and opera music until his retirement in the period 1751-1755. His successors were Ignaz Holzbauer and then Niccolò Jommelli.
