Giuseppe La Farina

Giuseppe La Farina ( born July 20, 1815 in Messina, † September 5, 1863 in Turin ) was an Italian jurist, journalist, writer and politician.

Life

After studying law La Farina worked as a newspaper editor. In 1837 he took part in an uprising against the Bourbons in South Italy. In the years after he was forced to flee because of his liberal views on several occasions to Florence and Rome. During this stay he wrote several historical works about Italy. When in January 1848 Sicily erupted a revolution, he returned to his homeland to support them. He was a Member of Parliament Revolution, emissary of Sicily with Charles Albert of Savoy during the first Italian War of Independence, and finally, to the suppression of the revolution in 1849, Minister. Immediately thereafter, La Farina was forced to emigrate to France. Gradually he gave up his Republican convictions and settled as a journalist in Turin. There he supported the more moderate policy of Cavour Italy. While Giuseppe Garibaldi train the thousands he tried on behalf of Cavour, Sicily to move the connection to the Kingdom of Sardinia - Piedmont.

After the unification of Italy, La Farina became a member of the State Council and the Parliament.

He died in 1863 in the then Italian capital of Turin.
