Giuseppe Leanza

Giuseppe Leanza ( born January 2, 1943 in Cesarò, Italy) is a Roman Catholic priest and diplomat of the Holy See.

Life

Giuseppe Leanza was ordained a priest at the age of 23 years. After doctoral studies in canon law in 1972, he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and worked in Paraguay, Uganda, United States, and in the Roman Curia.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 3 June 1990 Titular Archbishop of Lilybaeum and appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. The episcopal consecration on September 22, 1990 He received his Cardinal Agostino Casaroli; Co-consecrators were Curia, Archbishop Pio Laghi and Ignazio Zambito, Bishop of Patti.

The duties of a Pro-Nuncio Giuseppe Leanza took over for the countries of Malawi and Zambia, by the simultaneous assignment on June 4, 1991. His service as Apostolic Nuncio Giuseppe Leanza sat from 29 April 1999 for three years in Bosnia - Herzegovina continued. It was followed by the diplomatic missions of the Holy See in Slovenia and Macedonia. With the appointment of Titular Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza February 22, 2003 was Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria. On 22 February 2008, the Vatican diplomat was appointed as the new apostolic nuncio to Ireland.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 15 September 2011 Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic.

Giuseppe Leanza is Grand Cross Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
