Giuseppe Tominz

Giuseppe Tominz ( born July 6, 1790 in Gorizia, † April 24, 1866 in Gradiscutta in Val Vipacco, today Gradišče nad Prvačino, Slovenia ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Giuseppe Tominz was born on July 6, 1790 as the son of ironmonger Tominz Giovanni and his wife Maria Anna Giacchini. After his education at the Catholic Congregation of Piaristen Tominz began an apprenticeship with the painter Carlo Gorizia Chebar. After his mother and the remarriage of his father 's death in 1803 he left the family home. He probably studied in the following years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 1808, he met the sister of Emperor Francis I of Austria, Maria Anna of Austria ( 1770-1809 ) during a visit to Gorizia know where he a supporter found. The Archduchess would connect to the painter Domenico Conti Bazzaniu, who worked as a professor in Rome at the Accademia di San Luca. After the sudden death of his benefactress, he found a new lender in Count Giuseppe della Torre di Valsasso he had probably learned about his former teacher Carlo Chebar. With the financial support Tominz moved to Rome. In Rome he copied and restored works of art, as he was taught by Bazzaniu at the Accademia di San Luca. In this phase, his works Venere e Cupid (1812 ) and lettrice created (1812 ). In 1814 he was awarded for his research papers. In Rome, Tominz befriended the painter Bartolomeo Pinelli also. In 1816 he married Maria Ricci, the daughter of a maid of Bazzaniu. On 1 February 1818, first son of Augusto was born, who should also be a painter, and in 1872 the first director of the Museo Revoltella in Trieste.

After the death of his teacher Bazzaniu Tominz returned with his family to his hometown of Gorizia, where he received orders from the Archdiocese of Gorizia and the cities of Ljubljana and Trieste. In this phase, the portrait of the painter Giuseppe Bernardino Bison ( 1830), who was a friend of the family Tominz arose. In 1830 moved to Trieste Tominz. The port city experienced during this time an enormous economic boom and Tominz ' portraits found in particular in the Trieste bourgeoisie appeal. After 1835 many portraits of wealthy citizens of Trieste emerged.

1848 Tominz returned again to Gorizia back, left his home town but later due to the revolution of 1848, a short time back and lived until 1855 in Trieste. He then moved to his brother Francesco after Gradiscutta in Gorizia, where he died on 24 April 1866.
