Gizmo5

Gizmo5 (formerly Gizmo Project ) is a VoIP freeware that allows free phone calls via the Internet between computers as well as the toll -effective calling to landlines and mobile phones. Gizmo5 is developed and distributed by the American company SIPphone. The software itself is closed source, but it uses partially free protocols.

The software is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS available. There are also versions for PalmOS and mobile phones with Symbian OS. In November 2009, Gizmo5 was acquired by Google and is currently being implemented new.

Properties

The software is distinguished in that it works without problems even behind firewalls and NAT routers. Is used for this, the SIP protocol, which tries to enforce a standard in the Internet telephony. This is in contrast to competitor Gizmo5 Skype on a free standard.
