Gladbach channel

In the urban area of Gladbach no longer exists as such. However, there are the so-called Gladbach channel forming as rain water main sewer the drainage capability of the rainwater drainage in Old Mönchengladbach. In addition to the catchment area of the Bungtbaches this channel takes over a large part of the old storm water overflows from the combined sewer system. This makes it particularly burdened with high PCB-containing suspended solids.

To improve the water quality of Bungtbach Gladbach and the city of Mönchengladbach has invested in the construction project " mixed water discharge collector " since 1999, approximately 100 million euros. The ratio of separate sewer systems to combined sewer system is in Mönchengladbach (2006 ) about 2/3 to 1/3.
