Development

End of 1964, the GT coupe glass was due to the great success, the idea of making a big coupe with a six-cylinder engine, which was later incorporated into the sedan. But because we wanted to take the basic concept of the 1.3 -liter engine to save development costs, the decision was made for a V8 engine with 2 x 1.3 liter engine. The newly developed engine accordingly had two overhead camshafts - one per cylinder bank - and two timing belts. Frua was tasked to tailor an appropriate body. For cost reasons, many parts had to be used by existing vehicles. So, for example, came the headlights from the then-new Mercedes -Benz bus O 302 The mechanics of the Butterfly wipers, window cranks and other parts were from Mercedes -Benz cars, from 220 S to the pagoda. The system presented at the IAA 1965 result was a sensation. The new line was reminiscent of contemporary Italian sports car, especially on the Frua Maserati Quattroporte of 1963, and brought the new car the nickname " Glaserati " one.

Problems the carburettor leaving the car, the predicted 200 km / h can not reach.

That was enough now for the desired 200 km / h Also, a 3.2 -liter unit with 175 hp ( 129 kW ) was in the works. However, since the Hans Glas GmbH went into a financial trouble and was taken over by BMW on 10 November 1966, it initially did not come to mass production.
