Upper Glen Nevis

The Glen Nevis (Gaelic Gleann Nibheis ) is a valley ( glen ) in the Scottish Highlands. It is in the Council Area Highland southeast of Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. It is drained by the River Nevis, which opens at Fort William in the bay of Loch Linnhe. The Glen Nevis is a popular hiking area for tourists. Starting point for visiting Fort William.

The Glen Nevis is divided into two major sections, separated by a narrow gorge. The lower portion extends to about 10 kilometers west and south of Ben Nevis. In this section are, among others, the Youth of Fort William and the unitary authority established by the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. By the end of this valley portion a narrow single track road runs. The valley then narrows to the River Nevis Gorge, the River Nevis has dug deep into the rock here.

The upper part of the valley is bounded to the north by the foothills of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mòr other mountains like. To the south lies the well over 1,000 m altitude reaching mountain chain of Mamores. The Glen Nevis then widens gradually towards Rannoch Moor and becomes progressively shallower.
