Gliese 581 f

Gliese 581 f is an exoplanet, orbiting the red dwarf star Gliese 581. Gliese 581 is about 20 light-years away from Earth and belongs to the constellation Libra. The planet orbits its star in about the distance of Venus from the sun. Its minimum mass is 7 Earth masses, which he would belong to the group of super-Earths. In dependence on the (unknown ) of inclination of the orbital plane, the actual composition, but can also be greater.

The published on 29 September 2010 discovery was made using the radial velocity method, wherein data of the HIRES spectrograph at the Keck I telescope in Hawaii were combined and the HARPS instrument of 3.6 m at La Silla Observatory ESO in Chile. The team included the astronomer Steven S. Vogt, R. Paul Butler, Eugenio J. Rivera, Nader Haghighipour, Gregory W. Henry and Michael H. Williamson.

2011 HIRES and HARPS data have undergone both by Philip C. Gregory and Mikko Tuomi statistical analysis, with the result that the existence of planet Gliese 581 b, c, d and e could be confirmed by Gliese 581 g is not supported by the data and Gliese 581 f, we therefore as not secured or doubtful.
