Global Atmospheric Research Program

The Global Atmospheric Research Program ( GARP ) was a 1967-1982 ongoing international research program.

The guide had the World Meteorological Organization and the International Council of Scientific Unions, the Presidency had Jule Charney. One of the main, carried out as part of this research program GARP Atlantic Tropical experiments include the experiment of 1974 and the Alpine EXperiment ( ALPEX ) of 1982. Supported by 40 ships and 13 aircraft were over 4,000 researchers involved in the project.

Leading the way was the use of earth observation satellites and computers that help global flow patterns were first simulated. The results of the experiments improved the quality of numerical weather prediction significantly.
