The Glunze ( Glunz Trench ) is a watercourse in the community Bestensee. It connects the Pätzer Vordersee with the Todnitzsee and flows through a floodplain area. Its length is about 1.2 kilometers.

Recent History

In 2009, the existing lock was demolished and removed from the shipping directory. Since March 2010, allowed a flap weir near the Wilhelm- Franke Bridge ( junction of the B246 ) - in conjunction with the other two barrages in Senzig and Körbiskrug - on the one hand, the regulation of water levels but also an ecological continuum between Dahme and Pätzer Vordersee. Was installed a fish ladder - a parallel to the watercourse of brushes braked channel - allowing the fish one way upstream. The side walls are so far raised that herons do not come to the fish. In addition, a way to portages of canoes is given.

Is the Royal Forest house, which was built by order of King Frederick II of Prussia in 1775 and now houses a restaurant at the lock.

Glunze or Glunse

Beyond dispute the spelling is not. Especially older Bestenseer emphasize that after their schooling the spelling is correct with "s". Etymologically considered, is the "s" quite understandable. The area around today's Wilhelm- Franke Bridge was designated according to a cadastral map of 1861 as Gallunsbrück. Colloquially, sanded, could be from Gallunsbrück Glunsbrück. The voiceless "s" was then written language is replaced by " z".
