Glycoprotein 130

Glycoprotein gp130 ( first described as " interleukin-6 transducer chain " or " interleukin-6 signal transducer " ) is an important protein which further conveys the signals of some cytokines in the target cells and thus has receptor function. These cytokines belongs interleukin-6, interleukin- 11, oncostatin M, ciliary neurotrophic factor and leukemia inhibitory factor. Activate these cytokines using gp130 target genes involved in cell differentiation, cell survival, apoptosis and proliferation. The members of this cytokine family have pro-and anti -inflammatory properties and play for hematopoiesis in the acute phase response and the immune response of the organism involved.

The protein ( 17 exons) encoded on chromosome 5q11 section, the transcribed protein contains 918 amino acids and a molecular mass of approximately 130 kDa.
