GNOME Videos

Totem is the default media player under the Gnome desktop environment. The application uses GTK and is under the free GNU / GPL. The media player can optionally use the libraries Xine or GStreamer for playback.

GNOME integration

The package includes a plugin for Mozilla Firefox, which is responsible for media playback of audio and video trailers. Under GNOME the totem - video - thumbnailer provides the preview of video files in the file browser Nautilus. Another plugin handles the display of a Nautilus property page, the precise information about the selected media file. The associated file types are registered to start by double totem. By using the GnomeVFS Totem allows the playback of all the different media that are supported by the file system from GNOME, including encrypted SSH shares and Windows shares.
