GNU Chess

GNU Chess is one of the oldest chess programs for UNIX and has been ported to many other platforms. It was one of the first parts of 1984 started the GNU project.

The first version of GNU Chess was written by Stuart Cracraft, all others up to and including Version 4 by John Stanback. Version 5 (1998-1999) is a complete redesign of Chua Kong - Sian. The published in April 2011 Version 6 is based on the source code of version 2.1 published by Fabien Letouzey program Fruit.

GNU Chess is free software and is licensed under the GNU General Public License. It is used primarily in conjunction with the frontend Xboard.
