Gob Squad

Gob Squad is a British-German performance collective, which was founded in 1994 at Nottingham Trent University. By initially taking place exclusively in real places performances, the group developed their own style reality and Theatrical actions together. Since 2000, passers-by or spectators play in the pieces of Gob Squad a major role, thus making each performance unique. In addition to theater performances, the group also used the format of radio plays, internet performances, films and videos.

Performances

  • House (1994 ) Action in an empty house in Giessen ( DISCOURSE Festival 94, Institute for Applied Theatre Studies, Giessen)
  • Work ( 1995) durational performance in which Gob Squad in an office one weeks of viewers is observed.
  • Close Enough to Kiss (1997) first performance in a theater in a way mirrored glass box.
  • Calling Laika - a secret meeting under the stars (1998) of the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt am Main -produced piece, out of 30 at the parked cars in a circle, a kind of séance is held, in which the performers are trying to send messages into space.
  • Safe ( 1999) Gob Squad's first stage show, in which the group is trying to be a rock band.
  • Say It Like You Mean It (2000 ) Performance of Gob Squad with the spectators together is spending the first evening after the end of the world.
  • The Great Outdoors (2001 ) Send a job for Podewil in Berlin, where the performers leave the stage one after the other and on cell phones and video messages to the theater.
  • Room Service ( Help Me Make It Through The Night ) (2003 ) playing in a hotel where Gob Squad, alone in their rooms, can be observed for a night of cameras ( originated as a co-production between the theater Kampnagel in Hamburg and the Podewil in Berlin).
  • Super NightShot (2003), a video film which is shown right after its emergence on the road in the theater. Produced by the Volksbühne Berlin
  • In this neighborhood, the devil is a gold mine (2004) Gob Squad's first attempt to stage a play, René Pollesch third part of the saga Prater. Instead himself to speak the text, Gob Squad casts live passersby on the street for the main roles. Also produced by the Volksbühne Berlin.

  • Gob Squad 's Kitchen ( You've never had it so good ) (2007 ) in co-production with Volksbühne am Rosa- Luxembourg - Platz Berlin, donaufestival, Nottingham Playhouse and Fierce! , Live film event in the footsteps of Andy Warhol and 1960s.
  • Saving The World ( 2008) in co-production with Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Hamburg, Kampnagel zeitraumexit eV Mannheim and Vienna Festival, a 180 -degree panoramic movie

Awards

When Impulse Theatre Festival 2009 in Dusseldorf, the group won for her piece Saving the World the price of the Goethe -Institut and thus support for an international tour.

2012, the piece Gob Squad 's Kitchen ( You've Never Had It So Good ) in New York City with the Drama Desk Award as "best unique theatrical experience" was excellent.
