Impulse (Theaterfestival)

The international theater festival Impulse Theater Biennale (until 2011 Impulse Theatre Festival ) in North Rhine -Westphalia presents productions of the independent theater scene from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The festival was founded in 1990 by Dietmar N. Schmidt and directed until 2006. It shows every two years productions and co-productions of the independent theater scene in the German-speaking area in the cities of Bochum, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Mülheim an der Ruhr.

2013

Under new artistic direction by Florian Malzacher ( Dramaturgy: Stefanie Wenner ), the festival in 2013 with modified design and under the new name " Impulse Theater Biennale " from June 27 to July 6, 2013, in North Rhine -Westphalia instead. For the first time, the festival premieres, commissions and co-productions. An open call with over 300 entries was spotted together with a multidisciplinary artistic advisory board of scientists, curators and visual artists. The productions that will be shown during the festival, come exclusively from Künstleren with the center of life in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

History

1990-2006

1990, the Director of the NRW Culture Secretariat in Wuppertal Dietmar N. Schmidt founded the Impulse Theatre Festival Theatre as meeting the independent scene. Outstanding theater productions free groups and theater were presented first bundled up once a year. Under Schmidt's leadership until 2006 has named a panel of experts every year, the best theater production of the scene.

2007-2011

In 2007, the former theater director and cultural producer Tom Stromberg together with the director and festival organizer Matthias von Hartz, the artistic director of the festival. Every two years, the festival presented under their direction, new aesthetic and substantive positions within the German-speaking independent theater. As to imports by the two innovations were the special guests, international theater productions, which enriched the Festival program off the competition, as well as a visitor program for international curators, by targeting the international marketing of productions shown and the German scene has been driven.

Competition 1990-2011

Up to and including 2011, the stimulus was organized as a competition. Together with the artistic direction An independent jury selected the participants of the festival productions. During the festival, a jury inspected the works shown and awarded several prizes. With changing partners so were partly TV recordings for the winning group produced ( ZDF/3Sat/Theaterkanal, 1992/98/2000/2001 ) or were from 2007 to 2011 guest performance opportunities will be created at the Vienna Festival or as part of the theater program meeting. In addition, the Goethe -Institut funded concert tours as part of the price of the Goethe Institute. 2011 was awarded in memory of the Festival founder Dietmar N. Schmidt Prize for the best artistic performance with a value of 1500 €.
