Gobi-Gurvansaikhan-Nationalpark

The Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park located in southern Mongolia in the province Ömnö Gobi aimag near the town Dalandsadgad. The name can be translated with "The Three Beauties of Gobi " and refers to the three mountain chains Zuun Saikhan, Dand Saikhan and Baruun Saikhan. With a total area of ​​27,000 km ² it is more than twice the size of Yellowstone National Park and is the largest National Park in Mongolia dar.

Landscape and vegetation

The landscape is dominated by the mountain ranges of the Gobi - Altai. Especially in the east of the park are rugged mountains, otherwise the area is primarily dominated by the semi -desert foothills of the Gobi. Are striking, especially the sand dunes under which the Khongoryn Els are the greatest. They belong equally to the largest dunes in the entire Mongolia. In Zuun Saikhan one also finds the last forest-like formations of the southern Gobi Altai. Come here on the northern slopes at altitude 2,500 m in front of juniper forests, the edges of which are surrounded by other shrub varieties. Popular as source of fuelwood and threatened about the Saxaul trees of the national park, which on average only about 1.5 m high due to the heavy usage here. There are also places smaller trees that are composed of willows and birches.

Fauna

The Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park is home to a rich wildlife life. Siberian ibex, gazelle and Mongolia gazelles occur in relatively large, stable populations. The Siberian ibex mainly colonize the rocky mountain slopes, Mongolia gazelles prefer the eastern areas of the park. They still sometimes found in large herds of several thousand heads. The rare argali are found mainly on grassy slopes or semi -desert mountain feet. They seem to be less and less by competition with domestic animals. Half donkeys are rarely seen and appear seasonally reside in the park especially.

The extremely rare wild camels and Gobibären penetrate occasionally from other parts of the Gobi before in the western areas of the reserve. Far west of the Park, on the marshes along the river Zulganain, wild boar occur. Even larger predators National Park offers a home. In the mountains of snow leopards occur while wolves in the entire park occur. Przewalski's wild horses and elk were extirpated in the area of the National Park during the 20th century.

Pets allowed to graze only in the less strict protected margins. In the core zones is prohibited. In 1996, grazed over 200,000 pets in the National Park.
