God-Building

The Gotterbauertum (Russian Богостроительство, scientific transliteration Bogostroitel'stvo ) is a philosophical movement of Russian Marxism.

The Gotterbauertum was developed in the first decade of the 20th century by Russian writers. Target was a new belief, the religious ideas ( particularly those of Christianity ) should be combined with those of Marxism. God should not be sought as a transcendent being, but are built from the power of the human community. The Gotterbauertum was regarded as an interpretation of Marxist philosophy in religious path. Its most important representatives in the ranks of the Russian Anatoly Vasilyevich Lunacharsky were social democracy and Vladimir Alexandrovich Bazarov, as well as the writer Maxim Gorky and Alexander Alexandrovich Bogdanov.

Maxim Gorky took the position of God builder against Georgi Plekhanov, who took the position that religion has no future and will disappear in a socialist society in a commentary for the French magazine Mercure de France. Anatoly Lunacharsky published in 1908 a two -volume treatise on the Gotterbauertum under the title "Religion and Socialism " ( Religija i SOCIALISM ). Gorky processed the issue in his novel " A Confession " ( Ispowed ) and was criticized sharply by the friends of his Lenin.
