God Is an Astronaut

God Is an Astronaut is an Irish post-rock band from Glen of the Downs, County Wicklow. It was founded in 2002, the band's name comes from a quote from the movie Nightbreed. The band gained their open anti - war stance and by the extraordinary live performances awareness.

Band History

The brothers Torsten and Niels Kinsella played in various local bands before they called the band into being together with drummer Lloyd Hanney. In 2002 the debut album The End of the Beginning was released by the band's own record label Revive Records. The 2003 out-coupled from the album Singles The End of the Beginning and From Dust to the Beyond just received airplay on MTV as the 2004 released single Fragile. The second album All Is Violent, All Is Bright was released in 2005 and was also placed as the only album of the band so far in the Irish album charts. Published in 2006 EP A Moment of Stillness also reached the charts. For the third album Far From Refuge, the band played a sold-out European tour that took them to Moscow. In Istanbul they performed at a festival in front of 25,000 spectators. The U.S. tour was a fiasco because the band all the equipment was stolen. 2008 appeared the fourth studio album, in May 2010, the fifth.

The live performances of the band were in particular in the early phase characterized by extensive lighting effects and the use of self-produced music video for each title.
