Godflesh

Godflesh is a British band.

History

Godflesh was founded in 1988 in Birmingham by Justin K. Broadrick and GC Green, who made music together since Justin's 14th birthday. After some precursory projects - Broadrick initially played in Fall of Because and Napalm Death, and then moved to Head of David - was Godflesh.

The band was strongly influenced by groups like the Swans, early Killing Joke, Black Sabbath and Throbbing Gristle. Godflesh attacked the sluggish Noise - rock style of the Swans and Broad Rick's previous band Head of David, and extended these as evidenced by metal -heavy guitar sounds and elements of the post-industrial, in particular, by the addition of sound and voice effects and a drum machine. Accordingly, you Godflesh counted with their early works Street Cleaner (1989) and slave state ( 1991) to the Industrial Metal. Especially Street Cleaner is one of the pioneers of the genre.

Each of their albums is very different from the other releases. While you can also listen to grindcore influences in older albums, the later works are subject to permanent change.

From the 1992 album Pure, the band did not expand on the post-industrial elements. Since this break from Industrial Metal she devoted herself to a style, which is comparable with the U.S. Sludge sound. As of 1996, she experimented more with elements of hip-hop, dub and breakbeat / drum and bass and published the works of Songs of Love and Hate, Love and Hate in Dub and Us and Them.

"Techno and Hip Hop is in our opinion the only modern music, with the now, the future and beyond this is concerned, while so-called modern rock and pop music is exclusively collected by the past. There are hardly any rock with real brutality. The more I find today in the protests of Hip Hop, and has been for some years now. For this reason, we also work with drummer Brian Mantia, because we wanted to have exactly this kind of groove for, Songs of Love and Hate '. "

With the last, published in 2001 album Hymns, she returned to the sludge sounds of albums Selfless and Pure.

Godflesh influenced her work with numerous other Metal-/Crossover-Bands, such as Fear Factory.

Justin K. Broadrick also maintained during his work with Godflesh many side projects such as Final, God, Ice, Techno Animal and Others.

After the last album and a move to a new record company Ben Green left the band and Justin K. Broadrick announced in 2002, the end of Godflesh.
