Godilas

Godilas (Greek Γοδιλᾶς ) was an East Roman general, who in the time of Justin I ( reign 518-527 ) and Emperor Justinian I ( reign 527-565 ) was on duty.

Biography

Godilas 518 is first mentioned as one of the officers who Justin I proclaimed to the eastern emperor. The ceremony will be in De Ceremoniis, compiled by Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus in the 10th century, described, and also provides information on its rank, namely the one Campiductor ( "Drill Master "), the unit of Lanciarii (Greek καμπιδούκτωρ τῶν λαγκιαρίων ).

In the year 528 Godilas led together with Baduarius a punitive expedition of Odessus (today's Varna ) against the Huns from the Crimea.
